On a subway platform in the Bronx recently, a girl in a puffer coat strolled past passengers with a basket of M&M’s, Kit Kats and Trident gum slung across her shoulder. One rider captured her on a video posted on X, calling out, “No parent, no parent, where the parent at?” as she walked by. Of all the manifestations of human misery that the two-year-old migrant crisis has brought to New York City, few trouble the conscience more than the sight of children selling candy on the subway — sometimes during school hours, sometimes accompanied by parents, sometimes not. On trains and on social media, New Yorkers have asked: Isn’t this child labor? Shouldn’t someone be doing something to help these children?

It will mean fundamentally reevaluating our conception of free will and human agency — and reckoning with our tortured relationship with shame. Many health plans have refused to cover GLP-1s for weight loss , citing limited approval from the Food and Drug Administration. I don't know when I first became overweight, but I remember the moment I was taught to be ashamed of it. They can stop the vicious feedback loop where our food choices and weight drive the shame that drives our food choices and weight. But no matter how heavy that burden was, one thing made it easier to bear: I wasn't weighed down by my shame.

The precious sweets landed safely enough in California, and were trucked about 30 miles across Los Angeles County to a temporary storage facility in South El Monte, run by a company called Japan Crate Acquisition. Mr. Black, who runs a freight brokering company called Freight Rate Central in Sarasota, Fla., is part of an invisible army of professionals who coordinate and marshal the fleets of trucks that crisscross the country carrying everything from chickens to smartphones. He posted the job on a trucking board that is something like a Craigslist for freight. Someone named Tristan with HCH Trucking accepted the job (though he was using a Gmail account), and said he would have the shipment picked up shortly. On Aug. 9, Tristan wrote in an email, “Hey man, The first one is loaded and rolling, the second one we’ll pick it up tomorrow first thing in the morning.”

Before the Bell: What do investors need to know about investing in Native American and Alaskan Native communities? Dawson Her Many Horses: Native American and Alaskan Native communities are more than an ethnic group or racial category. The National League Gaming Commission, which is the regulator for Native American casinos, publishes a yearly report on gross gaming revenues for casinos. When you look at some of the research that gets done, Native American and Alaskan Native households are almost always the most underbanked. People like to focus on what I call the ‘poverty porn’ aspects of Native American and Alaskan Native communities.

REUTERS/Hannah McKay/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Nestle (NESN.S) on Thursday said it has started work on products to "companion" weight loss drugs like Novo Nordisk's (NOVOb.CO) game-changing Wegovy, hoping to cash in on their growing popularity. "We're working already on a wide range of products that could serve as companion products," Schneider said during an earnings briefing, noting that some supplements can help with the "loss of lean muscle mass" and "rapid regain of weight". "The largest parts of our portfolio will not be affected" by this new breed of weight loss drugs, he said. Wegovy has been shown to help patients reduce body weight by around 15% when used along with exercise and lifestyle changes.

REUTERS/Hannah McKay/Photo Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 6 (Reuters) - Nestle (NESN.S) shares were under pressure on Friday as investors weighed the potential impact of Novo Nordisk's (NOVOb.CO) blockbuster weight-losing drug Wegovy and how it could reduce spending on food. The KitKat and Nescafe coffee maker's shares were down 2% and headed for their lowest level in more than two years. However, Cox does not regard this as a substantial risk to Nestle and the broader food industry in the long term. Bruno Monteyne from Bernstein also pointed to the Wegovy impact, but saw little logic in the sell-off. "Danone sells water, baby milk powder, and yogurt: not sure how those would be negatively impacted by GLP1 / Wegovy?"

They create buzz and urgency, which help decades-old brands like Kit Kat stay relevant. A few years later, Rowntree’s renamed the product Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp. Nigel Roddis/ReutersAfter manufacturing and distributing Kit Kat for decades, the British company entered into a deal with Hershey, giving it control over US Kit Kat distribution in 1970. Nostalgic candies, like traditional Kit Kat bars, exert a powerful hold over those who loved them in their childhood, she noted. When people reach for a Kit Kat, they’re reaching for a reliable jolt of sweetness and good feelings, she said.

Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on June 9 he had secured a pledge from 75 food companies to cut prices. French shoppers have paid more than 20% more for Nestle products each month since January versus last year, the data showed, and price increases peaked at 36.6% in May. Nestle, whose brands include Maggi stock cubes and Kit Kat chocolate bars, declined to comment. Similarly, stores sold products made by Activia yogurt owner Danone for between 11.2% and 16.7% more than last year in the first six months of the year. The NielsenIQ data shows the final prices retailers charge shoppers, and does not necessarily only reflect the prices food companies ask for from stores.

She spent an average of about 60 Canadian dollars or about $45 on food and drinks in the last four months. That bill was roughly 14 Canadian dollars in June, or about $10. And a mom who has done dumpster diving with her daughter said in an as-told-to essay for Insider that "the hardest part of dumpster diving is seeing the waste." She advises other people who want to try out dumpster diving to go at night like she does.

Last week, for instance, Nigeria's central bank allowed the naira currency to drop as much as 36% on the official market. Nestle, which is replacing imported corn starch in Nigeria with cassava starch, told Reuters it has helped seven local suppliers to boost capacity to meet the company's supply needs. ONION POWDER AND TURMERICNestle said it was working to develop local suppliers of vegetables and spices used in Maggi products, for instance onion powder in Nigeria and Senegal, and turmeric powder in Nigeria. Nestle did not comment on whether its position in Nigeria would help insulate it from foreign exchange volatility, neither did it give an indication of the economic impact of the local sourcing. An internal Union Investment document seen by Reuters shows that the firm received just 30 responses to its outreach. Although consumer goods manufacturers are particularly exposed, other sectors that import goods associated with deforestation, including commodities houses and industrials companies, will also face scrutiny. Consumer goods makers are counting on technology such as satellites and artificial intelligence to help eradicate deforestation from their supply chains. Several large consumer goods companies say they are close to meeting their ambitious zero-deforestation goals. "The EU rules make deforestation a financial risk as well as an environmental risk."

LONDON/BERLIN, May 30 (Reuters) - Nestle (NESN.S), the world's biggest packaged food company, said on Tuesday it had hired the London Stock Exchange Group's (LSEG) finance chief Anna Manz as its new chief financial officer. Manz will replace Francois-Xavier Roger, who the company said is stepping down to "pursue new professional challenges" after eight years in the role. Nestle, whose more than 2,000 brands include Kit Kat, Haagen-Dazs and Nescafe, said Manz will join Nestle as soon as she is released from her current duties. "We trust that Anna will pursue Francois' legacy, considering her strong career at Diageo," Vontobel analyst Jean-Philippe Bertschy said. Rival Unilever Plc (ULVR.L) also said on Tuesday that CFO Graeme Pitkethly would leave the consumer goods giant by the end of May 2024 after more than two decades.

Using celebrity memes in videos isn't the only hazard for brands looking to join TikTok trends.

Police in Oregon say they are investigating three credible reports of razor blades that were found inside Halloween candy. The first report of the blades inside a candy bar occurred on Halloween night, Eugene police Capt. “Thinking that was odd, they investigated a little more and opened the candy wrapper and found a razor blade, a small razor blade that was embedded inside the candy bar.”The razor blade, Harrison said, was about an inch and was similar to a blade in a manual pencil sharpener. On Tuesday, police received two other reports of razor blades inside candy, which apparently were also inserted inside the wrapper through a small slit, Harrison said. “We are lucky that nobody was hurt by these razor blades,” he said.
